Escapism…

Getting lost in a TV series is a glorious escape.

One minute you’re performing a tedious task such as folding laundry. The next, you are riveted to the new season of Tulsa King.

The new season has melted into a single evening. It is a vacation without luggage, a pause button for life.

The best shows give you whole new worlds to slip into with strange rules, unexpected loves, villains you love to hate and heroes who feel like old friends.

You pick up phrases you will never use in real life…”can I pull you for a conversation?!” You cheer for people who don’t exist, and, for a while, forget the headlines.

And, maybe, that’s the magic.

It is not just entertainment, it’s borrowed perspective. A reminder that sometimes the best drama is not yours, and that escape, in the right doses, is just another way of surviving the week and the surprisingly heinous state of America.
