Flirtatious Chez Fifi…NYC Restaurant Review

Alright, gather ‘round. It is the time to talk about Chez Fifi on the Upper East Side.

This is the restaurant that popped up like the covetable designer bag you always pretend you do not care about until someone else gets one.

What’s the scoop?!

Chez Fifi is the new French-Basque-style bistro by brothers Joshua and David Foulquier (yes, that Sushi Noz team) named in tribute to their mother, Fifi.

Think intimate Parisian townhouse meets cosy library. The interior, designed by Swedish studio JOYN Studio, features mahogany panelling, bevelled mirrors, deep blue accents and that low-key elegant aesthetic.

Upstairs lies the Salon de Fifi à l’Étage, cocktail lounge territory, less formal, perfect for lingering.

It is a French bistro with a Basque twist, elevated, satisfying, unapologetic.

We started the evening with cocktails upstairs. It was one of the best martinis I have ever sipped demurely, embellished with a divine blue cheese stuffed Cerignola Olive ($26).

We headed down the narrow staircase and settled in.

The lighting was great  All flaws diminished.

To start the Bread and Brittany Butter are worth the carb expenditure.

The journey commenced with a fabulous truffled Omelette with just the right amount of truffles as they can be overwhelming ($32).

The Rice and Clam dish was divine, consisting of Basque-style little neck clams with bomba rice and homemade clam stock to create a creamy texture ($28).

The half Poulet Roti was fabulously tender and the jus was amazing. We split it and still took half home. It was accompanied by outrageously crispy potatoes and a lovely green salad  ($78).

Another fabulous selection is the Filet Mignon au Poivre with Frites ($69).

At Chez Fifi you finally get that rare combination of serious food, sophisticated design and approachable charm. It feels elevated without being stuffy.

The Chocolate Mousse dessert was outrageous, the perfect ending to a delectable evening ($14).

I recommend sharing, especially if you want to do a deep dive into the appealing offerings.

The service is efficient and unobtrusive. This isn’t a stiff white tablecloth Michelin tomb. It is elegant and fun.

Chez Fifi hits the sweet spot.
