Hampton Follies…

Daytime adventures.

Saturday we made the short drive to the Hamptons.

After high season is the time to explore.

We have a home right before the madness.

Destination the much ballyhooed Sagaponack General Store.

Contrary to summer months the crowds were at a minimum and parking was plentiful.

The Sagaponack General store was built in 1878 and, from the start, housed a post office which helped to mark it as the true center of the community.

Mindy Gray, a part-time resident, philanthropist, and wife of Blackstone president and COO Jonathan Gray,  bought the Sagaponack General Store for $3.75 million and proceeded to renovate the building.

The General Store offers delicious breakfast sandwiches, rotisserie chicken and a wide selection of fresh produce, baked goods and candy.

The charming, nostalgic atmosphere, the beautiful garden, are all appealing. The General Store is definitely worth a visit. The sweatshirts are tempting, but not for $159.

The Sagaponack area is gorgeous.

We headed to the Balsam Farm in Amagansett. Amongst gourds and pumpkins we found a fresh peach pie and just picked ears of corn.

Founded in 2003 by Alex Balsam started farming with ten rented acres, one tractor and a small roadside farm stand.

Today, he farms approximately 200 acres of mixed vegetables, fruits, herbs, cut flowers and grains.

We had built up an appetite and lunched outside at Bostwick’s in East Hampton. The fresh lobster roll and steamers were amazingly delicious.

Coffee was in order so we headed to Water Mill and Il Buck for iced cappuccinos and a few goodies.

We headed home, satiated and happy.
