Roaming Southwest France…

One of the great joys of visiting France’s countryside is wiggle waggling your way through tiny villages and discovering remote chateaux with amazing accommodations offering outstanding dining experiences.

Always a highlight is unearthing wonderful restaurants, often Michelin recommended, enjoying a leisurely lunch amongst splendid woodsy and waterfront vistas.

A few days ago we met up with friends in the beautiful Dordogne region.

The drive was 90 minutes through rolling French countryside laden with historic vineyards.

We adore our friends, Kelly and Francois. We first met in Peru and we continue the friendship in southwest France where they have renovated a property reminiscent of their original 19th century farmhouse.

They have personally created La Rougie, an incredibly appealing Bed and Breakfast.

The decor is outstanding at the intimate, upscale farmhouse. Additionally, Kelly is a chef of note and her amazing cuisine is accompanied by divine locally sourced wine.

Check out La Rougie.

It is definitely worth a stay with hosts who are smart, savvy and gracious.

We happily spent 3 1/2 hours talking and catching up on life over a wonderful lunch at Les Singuliers in Saint- Astier.

The 59 euro 4-course lunch was delectable.

Take the culinary tour, commencing with the amuse bouche:

Sante! to a most enjoyment day.
