Take Me Home…

At last…New York City.

Not an arrival so much as a re-entry.

The first matter at hand was to unpack and sort through the mail.

Then….

Sushi. Sake. Stroll. Sleep.

A reset.

Morning comes early here, whether you like it or not. And suddenly you are in Central Park surrounded by dogs who have better social lives and outfits than most people.

Cherry blossoms doing their thing—brief, perfect, and slightly smug about it.

A four-mile charity run weaving through it all, because of course, New York wakes up and immediately decides to accomplish something.

Final thoughts on the 1200 mile sojourn.

Three legs. Hundreds of miles. One vintage Jaguar. Countless near-death experiences courtesy of strangers with poor decision-making skills.

FYI…the last night was in Richmond Virginia at the The Jefferson Hotel which doesn’t just welcome you, it receives you. Marble statuesque columns, chandeliers, and a sense that someone important once stood exactly where you are standing, probably wearing a waistcoat and discussing railroads.

Richmond itself surprised us. Carytown was the highlight. It feels like a movie set for a bohemian American lifestyle. Tree-lined streets, quirky, indie shops, an abundance of restaurants.

The final day was supposed to be a rather rapid 5 hour journey. The traffic turned it into an 8 hour slog.

The good news is we ended up exactly where we were supposed to be, albeit a little fatigued, slightly caffeinated, mildly irritated.

We reset and the absolute best part was reuniting with our amazing daughter and doggie.

The road doesn’t change you.

The miles and endless byways clear the noise long enough for you to recognize that home is where the heart is.

I love the Jefferson Hotel. We were at a wedding there last Summer. Such an Historic site.
