A different type of restaurant review.
The food is almost secondary to the view.
Farm Country Kitchen is a rustic farm-to-table American restaurant nestled inside a historic late 1800s colonial home situated by the scenic banks of the Peconic River in Riverhead, New York.
If you dine there you must sit outside by the river. The tranquil setting is conducive to a lovely evening.
If there is a wait the restaurant has Adirondack chairs nestled on the hill. It is a perfect location to enjoy an adult beverage.
The cozy, eclectic eatery has a hidden feel, capturing the quiet essence of rural North Fork living.
The hostess was rude and less than accommodating. We brushed her off, had a drink and then relaxed at our riverside table.
We started with an Arugula Endive Salad with chick peas, red onions, boccacini mozzarella, olives, cherry tomatoes, shaved romano cheese, and croutons with surprisingly delicious basil dressing ($14).
The Mussels were fresh presented in a basil pesto cream sauce served with grilled bread ($16).
We also ordered a special Scallop Risotto dish. The scallops were sweet and well prepared, the risotto was cold and garlicky ($40).
We finished our meal with a light, creamy Creme Brûlée Cheese Cake with fresh whipped cream and farm picked, uncontaminated berries ($12).
Eating at Farm Country Kitchen is like picnicking in a picturesque, idyllic location.
It is a great place to dine on a beautiful summer or fall evening.
