Kiln Is Killing It…London Restaurant Review

Today we venture across the pond to follow my daughter on her most recent European adventure. I was thrilled she went. I was also pissed she didn’t take me with her.

As I was eat, pray, loving my way through the UK and France, the Devil made a request…you’re consuming calories at a rate you will regret stateside, can you use that to my advantage and review a few restaurants?
Because I am a perfect daughter, I said of course (and will you pay for any associated meals).
Today, we start in London with Kiln, a bustling postage stamp sized walk-in only Soho restaurant that celebrates diverse flavors of Thailand with influences from across Southeast Asia.
Kiln has a particular obsession/focus with fire, smoke, grilling, and spice, which my tastebuds savored and my hair smelled of for the remainder of the day.

I highly recommend sitting at the bar with a full view of the open kitchen, which runs almost the entire length of the top floor. The chefs work in skilled and casually precise coordination, commanded by a female head chef who operated with such efficient ease that I wished she could run the DNC.
On the server’s recommendation and because it was noon and I had absolutely nothing to do except enjoy myself, I began with a glass of sparkling Staffelter Hof, Sekt 2020. It was delightful, crisp, and I had a few.

I was quickly served the Babette Nahm D’tok with Mustard Leaf to start, a bright, fresh, herb forward salad with perfectly seared beef and a hefty dose of spice, which was superbly subdued by my German bubbles.

While I waited on my next course, I ogled my neighbor’s Stir Fried Summer Greens & Soy and Dry Red Curry. They evidently did not enjoy a solo diner staring at them intently because when I asked how their food was, they said delicious, but sadly did not offer to share any.
The gentleman to my right conversely offered to share both his food and his number. I tried his curry, but declined his contact. I didn’t think his wife would approve.
Next up was one of their house favorites, Claypot Glass Noodles with Tamworth Belly and Crab. It was bold, yet comforting. Complex, while not overwhelming the palate. Had it not been for my judgy neighbors, I would have ordered another. Sadly that’s all the food I had room for, although I did manage to find a tiny bit of space for biscuits at Fortnum & Mason down the road.
I would recommend getting to Kiln early if waiting isn’t one of your favorite activities. However, once you’re seated, the food on the ever-changing menu is delicious, the service warm by British standards, and the entire team moves with speed without making you feel rushed.
Crowned the UK’s Best Restaurant at the 2018 National Restaurant Awards, Kiln holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
Absolutely eat at Kiln. Just book your blowout for the following day.
