Imagine, I graduated without emotional distress after experiencing the severed umbilical cord residing hundreds of miles away.
Today’s helicopter parents are still hovering, even employing surrogates.
Apparently, parents can now hire local concierge moms or parents by proxy services to look after their children while they are away at out-of-town colleges, acting as a mom away from home to help pathetically dependent students adjust to campus life.
Substitute mommy’s handle daily chores including, doing laundry, making beds, ironing sheets, grocery shopping, delivering chicken soup or medicine when sick, booking doctor or beauty appointments (you are 18 and beautiful, why are you scheduling spa days at college?!), and handling emergency travel documents.
Setting up dorms, moving in and out, apartment hunting, planning parties, and organizing rides or late-night pickups are also part of the services all for the guilt free fee of $10,000 for the academic year for 24/7 on-call support.
Some regional services charge smaller membership fees ranging from roughly $450 to $1,600 a year, plus extra for specific errands.
Supporters say these programs reduce stress for out-of-state parents and offer a safety net for homesick freshmen.

Take the $10,000 and send your kid to sleep away camp starting at an early age and they will quickly learn about independence.

While at college, I made my own bed, wiped my own ass before bidets were available in America and boiled a package of Lipton’s Chicken Noodle Soup on the hot plate in the dorm community room when I felt sick.
I can totally believe this absurdity as I remember some of my friends pulling all nighters, writing their college kids term papers for them.
This is madness. Take the time to parent and stop making playing tennis and doing your nails the priority.
You wanted kids so YOU bring them up to be functioning, responsible, capable young adults who can take care of themselves before they leave for college!
