Despite this, please allow me to introduce you to the $60 loaf of Rye Bread.
The establishment, RYE by Martin Ayer, is a renowned Austrian bakery chain that is making headlines for selling a 3.3-pound loaf of 100% rye sourdough bread for $60.
In May 2025, the bakery signed a 10-year lease to occupy 3,200 square feet of ground-floor retail space at 285 Lafayette Street in SoHo, New York City.
While the internet erupted with rumors tying the steep $60 price tag directly to the Kushner family, the bakery’s owners have clarified that the price reflects the massive size of the loaf, the cost of importing organic rye flour from Austria, and the high overhead expenses of the neighborhood.
Nevertheless, the real estate firm who owns the underlying retail condominium and acts as the bakery’s landlord is the Kushner Companies, owned by Jared Kushner’s daddy.
Any way you slice it, it looks like Republican kneaded bread for $60…such a deal.
