Call Me Izzy and Daddy…

I am so rich…

In love.

I have the most amazing family unit.

Father’s Day was pure delight…like eating candy all day long without calories counting.

We commenced honoring the father at 9am, touring the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s, Sargent & Paris and the Superfine exhibits (detailed post to follow this week).

Breakfast on Madison Avenue followed.

Next some retail therapy at Lululemon for the man of the hour.

An outstanding Broadway play starring the talented Jean Smart of Hacks fame.

Father’s Day culminated in a great omakase dinner after indulging in cocktails and small bites at Red Stache.

I am one fortunate person to have married my Prince Charming and given birth to an incredible daughter.

Before moving on, let us discuss the play, Call Me Izzy.

Jean Smart transcends the stage in a raw, riveting solo performance at Studio 54.

Jean Smart  doesn’t just hold the stage. She scorches it into memory. The play may not be perfect, but Smart is.

Watching her command every inch of that minimalist set feels like witnessing a masterclass, one beautifully broken monologue at a time.

Written by Jamie Wax and directed with quiet precision by Sarna Lapine, Just Call Me Izzy joins Broadway’s solo show renaissance, but this is no actor’s vanity project. It is a character study…messy, flawed and deeply human anchored by Smart’s fearless vulnerability and magnetic poise.

Izzy’s life is one of thwarted brilliance and quiet rebellion. Married at 17 to a violent alcoholic, she hides her voice the only way she can by scribbling poems with an eyebrow pencil on toilet paper, tucked away in a Tampax box, the one place her husband will never look.

The material is stark, but in Smart’s hands, it never veers into exploitation. Her delivery is a high-wire act of pain and wit, heartbreak and defiance.

And so another Father’s Day comes and goes.

Remember, No Kings here only loving fathers.
